At every IOA World Congress three awards are presented.
- Morton J. Klein Medal of Excellence
The prestigious Morton J. Klein Award was established in 1995 to perpetuate the memory of Dr. Klein and his unparalleled contributions to the Association. Morton Klein was associated with the IOA since it was first organised as the International Ozone Institute in 1973. At that time, he was elected to be the first chairman of the first governing board of the Institute. He then presided over changing its name to the International Ozone Association in May of 1978. This last action made Mort Klein the only President IOI ever had and IOA's first President. The Klein Award is presented only after very careful consideration by the International Board of Directors.
The inscription on the medal is as follows: An award of excellence to recognise contributions of the highest order to the International Ozone Association in commemoration of the clear vision, diplomatic proficiency, and unparalleled leadership which characterised the life of Morton J. Klein.
- Prize for Research of the European-African-Asian-Australasian Group
This prize was created in 1985 to encourage further developments in the field of and its application. It is usually awarded every two years during the IOA World Congress. Its name, formerly "Jean Hallopoeau Prize" was changed in 2004 into "Willy Masschelein Prize" as testimony of our deep regard and friendship for Willy Masschelein and as a recognition of the outstanding work he has made for the Association being active member of the EA3G and IOA Boards and EA3G President.
The Willy Masschelein Prize is an award for original research revealing some unprecedent knowledge on any of the fundamental aspects of the industrial generation and the applications of ozone and derived oxidants. This award is presented after examination by a Scientific Board of papers on a level similar to that of a thesis for a Doctorate degree.
- Harvey M. Rosen Memorial Award - Sponsored by PAG
The Harvey M. Rosen Memorial Award was established in 1989 to recognise the "best paper" published in Ozone Science & Engineering [OS&E] during the two years period between World Congresses. Dr. Harvey M. Rosen was a prime mover behind the establishment of the International Ozone Association and of OS&E, the Journal of the Association. It was Harvey Rosen who recognised early in the 1970's the need for the establishment of an ozone association, and then pressed for the creation [in 1979] of a peer-reviewed technical journal dealing with all aspects of ozone technologies. Recipients of the Rosen Award are determined by consensus polling of the members of the Editorial Board of OS&E.
